Who we are

This website, perpetualsummer.ltd, is run by Perpetual Summer Ltd. You can contact us about this policy or your data at hello@perpetualsummer.ltd.

The contact form

When you send a message through the contact form, we receive your name, email address and message by email so we can reply. Your details are only kept in that email, for as long as we need it to deal with your enquiry. Our server only records whether the email was sent.

Analytics

We run our own analytics service, Umami, at analytics.perpetualsummer.ltd. It does not use cookies or store your IP address. It records page views, referring sites, browser types and countries.

Liking, subscribing to and sharing blog posts

The Like, Subscribe and Share buttons on blog posts use our Scribe social service at social.scribe-atp.app, which asks you to sign in with your Bluesky account. We never see your Bluesky password.

  • Like and Subscribe save a record in your own Bluesky account. These records are public, like other Bluesky activity.
  • Share posts a link to the article from your Bluesky account, after you confirm.
  • To save you signing in each time, the service keeps you signed in for 30 days after you last used it. It stores your Bluesky account ID and sign-in tokens, and sets a cookie named scribe_session on social.scribe-atp.app. It also keeps a log of these actions, and limits sign-in attempts by IP address to prevent abuse.
  • Your browser remembers which posts you have liked or subscribed to, in its local storage. This is not sent to us.

Cookies

This site sets one cookie, csrf, which protects the contact form against forged submissions. It is needed for the form to work securely. The scribe_session cookie described above is only set if you sign in to like, subscribe or share.

Server logs and hosting

Our server records each page request: the address requested, the result and how long it took, but not your IP address. Our web server and hosting provider handle your IP address to deliver the site, and the web server may record IP addresses in its error log.

Why we use this information

To reply to your enquiries, provide the features you choose to use, keep the site secure and working, and understand how it is used so we can improve it. We rely on our legitimate interests in doing these things. We don't sell your information or use it for advertising.

Who we share it with

Our hosting provider, who processes it on our behalf, and Bluesky when you choose to like, subscribe or share. We don't share it with anyone else unless the law requires us to.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask to see, correct or delete personal information we hold about you, and object to how we use it. Email hello@perpetualsummer.ltd. Likes, subscriptions and shares are in your own Bluesky account, so you can delete them there at any time. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update it here and change the date at the top.
